Our dog Maya has gone through a lot of toys. She's a big chewer! The dog daycare even put a note on her file in big black marker - "NO KONGS IN PLAYGROUP". I thought she might be possessive about her Kongs, nope, turns out she chews them to bits. Maya has tried all sorts of stuffed ducks, squirrels, fox, rubber chewy things....you get the idea. She's nice to them for a while and then she annihilates them. She always finds a weakness and rips out all the stuffing, carries the carcass around for a while and then shreds it. She had duck carcass she was able to turn inside out and then back right side out. Weird.
Today we got her a new Tuffie's toy. It's a pink pig. The tag line is "The World's 'Tuff' Est Soft Dog Toy." Polly Piggy is made of four layers of material (we'll see how long it takes Maya to gnaw through one), washable and floats. On the Tuffie's scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the toughest) Polly rates a 7 - "a really tough toy, but still vulnerable". So far Maya has chewed on Polly's ears, legs and taken her down to her product testing ground in the basement where she can really check out a toy by barking at it after she's thrown it in to the middle of the room. She even used it as a pillow when she got tired.
I feel pretty good about Polly's chance for survival, but one little word on Polly's tag keeps coming to mind - vulnerable. Stay tuned.
