Boise

We road tripped it to at the end of July to visit my family. We took Maya with us. She thinks Boise is dog paradise. My mom has a big yard and every morning Maya checks the perimeter, cruises through the vegetable garden and runs circles in the grass.

There are three big maples across the back edge of the yard. My family has never had a dog and the trees are a squirrel haven. They leap from tree to tree eating seeds from the pinwheel pods and throw the shells in the grass. Since the squirrels made their debut in Denver this spring Maya has been dying to catch one. I've almost ended up flat on my face on numerous runs while she darts at the squirrels taunting her from the trees along 7th avenue.

Needless to say, she was ecstatic when she discovered the squirrels in my mom's back yard. Initially she bounced from trunk to to trunk barking at them as they threw the remnants of their breakfast at her. One morning she became completely focused chasing the squirrels as they jumped through the trees. One jumped on the power pole on the other side and Maya jumped over the six foot fence after it. Matthew and I spit out our coffee in shock! Luckily Maya was pretty surprised too and immediately came back through the gate Matthew opened.

We took Maya to the lake at Veteran's Park almost daily. It's an awesome place that can be accessed by the greenbelt . It's fed by the Boise River and stays really clear and clean.

Fishermen, swimmers and triathletes make good use of the lake, but we were really surprised we didn't see more dogs. Maya liked chasing the dragon flies through the plants on the shore as much as she liked swimming out to retrieve her frisbee.
