The Kitchen

After several complaints about Maya's treatment of Polly the pig (and the fact we haven't posted any new blog spots for awhile), I've decided its time to share a little bit about what we've done in the past month or two and what we plan to do in this summer.

In January, I've posted about how much work I needed to do in my garden. I spent a lot of March and April (battling snow and wind storms) preparing my garden before I planted it around Mother's Day. We hauled in a couple of tons of rock, 20-30 bags of soil/compost/potting soil, what seems like thousands of dollars worth of plants (well, maybe somewhere in the hundreds) and a few new pots. We decided not to build the fence separating the garden from the lawn, which has worked out well (so far). Its looking great.

To go with all the new foliage, we found a great deal on a cantilever umbrella at Costco. We we're hoping to pick one of these up before the sun and heat came.

After several weeks of manual labor in the garden, I started complaining to Lisa that she wasn't feeding me enough calories (if I was a dog, I would request an additional scoop of food each day). I've literally wasted away to nothing! In response, Lisa's started calling me ribsy. Needless to say, I wasn't going to complain when we decided to plan a couple of big meals with our families:

Mother's Day was literally one of the first nice days of spring. We celebrated by taking my Mom to Elway's for brunch. While we didn't see John, we spotted Dealin' Doug at a nearby table. The food was fantastic but kind of put us in comatose for the rest of the day.

This past week, Lisa's mom has been in town, and we celebrated by going with B&J to The Kitchen in Boulder. Food and Wine Magazine called it "one of America's greenest restaurants" and "one of its finest". I shared the two-person cowboy steak with Jan and Lisa had the Colorado lamb. We had garlic fries, homemade pasta, salads and desserts as well. Couldn't have been better -- a top three Denver-Boulder restaurant in my book.

Tomorrow, we're running the Bolder Boulder 10K. In two weeks, we're running the Garden of the Gods 10 mile in Colorado Springs. This is the second year in a row we sign up for something crazy during a blizzard!

After the 10 miler, we're looking forward to dialing it back and enjoying the summer. We'll probably take a road trip or two -- one to Boise to see Jan and Duane (and Jen!) -- and another to either Salida or Telluride. I always go fishing mid-Summer with my family. Oh, and I'm going to Vegas mid-September. Lots to look forward to!
